1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Put iTunes or equivalent media player on random.
3. For each song that plays, write something related to the theme you picked inspired by the song. You have only the time frame of the song: no planning beforehand: you start when it starts, and no lingering afterward; once the song is over, you stop writing. (No fair skipping songs either; you have to take what comes by chance!)
4. Do 5 of these, then post.

I choose.. Buffy the Vampire Slayer!!

Bring Me to Life- Evanescence

Buffy sat alone, staring out her bedroom window and into the dark night. The drizzle of rain matched her mood; gloomy, but too lethargic to work itself into a full storm. She felt so numb. Sure, she was The Slayer. She killed vampires, demons, and all those other bad guys.. she saved the world. But she was an empty shell; a killing machine. She couldn't even be with her one true love - and she couldn't find another love in some average joe who knew nothing about her powers. She couldn't burden someone else with that knowledge.
She'd just been going through the motions, putting on her happy face for the sake of her sister and parents.
And Spike.. well, Spike had really made her feel alive.
But it wasn't real. He wasn't Angel, and she wasn't Dru.

The Academy Is - Classifieds

"He's got those honest eyes - he'll keep you warm at night?" Giles quirked an eyebrow at the group of miscreants around him as he read. "I wasn't aware that my eyes portrayed truthfullness, or that I was comparable to a hot water bottle." He smirked, then ducked out of the group to refill his teacup.
"See!" Willow pointed and grinned, "There's that crooked smile!"
Giles rolled his eyes. "I still don't see where you're getting all this nonsense. Honestly. 'He's got a decent voice, he writes good story lines?'"
Xander stepped into the conversation, puffing out his chest in a knowing manner. "Somebody likes to sing in coffee joints and try to keep it from his younger friends in hopes that they won't someday use it against him," he said with a broad smile. "Said friends are very sneaky and clever, and always find out."
"And crave mochas," Buffy added with a nod.
Giles shook his head. "Bloody coffee. Always ruining my life."
"Now, don't start it with that British melodrama-" Xander started...
"How is submitting you into an online dating service ruining your life?" Buffy lectured. "Come on!"
"Yeah, you need something to do other than books," Xander said. He sighed at the looks on his friends' faces. "Didn't think that one through..."
"We were just worried about you," Willow said logically. Xander looked relieved. "I mean, you're always researching, and training people, and getting turned into big scary demons..." she trailed off.
"That doesn't leave much time for dating," Buffy finished.

The Cure - Disintegration

Giles sat in his favourite armchair, swirling a goblet of liquid that would most likely get him a reprimand from any of his comrades. Some of his old albums lay in the floor next to the record player, and he couldn't remember just where he'd left his glasses.
Sometimes, he missed the days of Ripper. Of Ethan, chaos, magicks, and vanity. Of having fun, power, infamy, and freedom to not give a damn what anyone else thought.
Sometimes he missed the girls. The soft, velvety girls that were always following them around, begging for just a moment of their time.
He should just let it go. But he couldn't. It was a part of his past, just as anything else.
He thought maybe taking a younger lover would cull the urge to rebel again. All his attempts had failed, though the fault was circumstance, not his. He had too much responsibility now to do as he pleased all the time. Most people did not understand his job, much less want to believe that there truly were vampires, demons, and other such 'boogie monsters'.
And now here he was again, brooding with his alcohol and for what could have been, or what already had. He'd cut himself up some, keep himself up all night, and berate himself over and over and over again. It would eventually end how it always ends - he'd collapse into the bed and pass out until the next apocalypse.
Which wouldn't leave him with much sleep.

HIM - Vampire Heart

Spike prowled through the cemetery. Damned Buffy. He just couldn't get a break. She loved him, she hated him. She wanted to kill him, she was fucking him in an abandoned building.
Well, two could play that game. If she wanted cold-hearted love, it was cold-hearted love she'd get. He had a heart, but it didn't beat. And he didn't have to feel bad about treating her just like she'd treated him.
They were on opposite ends, opposite sides. They couldn't even have the same sleeping patterns, for crying out loud. But just because he couldn't take her to a matinee without becoming barbecue didn't mean he didn't love her.
Whatever the hell love was, when your heart stopped beating a century ago.

Mindless Self Indulgence - You'll Rebel To Anything (As Long As It's Not Challenging)

Giles angrily turned a curve in Citreon, speeding as fast at it could go.
Now more than ever, he wished for a sports car. It was very hard for one to speed away angrily in his current car.
Bloody Watcher's Council. Bunch of morons. They honestly believed that the entire demonic world revolved around them. And that they knew about every uprising. They fully expected a vampire gaining power to notify them before planning world domination.
Sod the Watcher's Council, and their Slayer tests. He chuckled to himself. Buffy could kick all of their arses, with no assistance whatsover. And they dared to tell her she may not be good enough to kill revived corpses.
Morons.
He'd had enough of their rules and regulations. What good had they ever done him, anyway? What assistance had they ever given, after always having asked for his.
He just wished he'd been able to speed away angrily after quitting. That would have really put a bee in their bonnet, or some other such cliche for really pissing them off. To think of the shocked expressions when he left large, garish black marks on the pavement outside the Council building....
That's it. He was buying a sports car.

I cheated a little. There were songs I obviously couldn't use. And then I kept getting ones that only showed the same scenario to me (Buffy being mad at the world for being so burdened, Spike being all angry, etc.). And I felt like being canonish. ;p

I bought an mp3 player today. finally. I deserved it. I haven't bought anything for myself in ages.

I screwed up, though.

The installation disk gave a list of programs. I downloaded the first but not the rest. Turns out I didn't even need the first one. I didn't want to download Rhapsody because I have plenty of other media programs and didn't want to junk up my hard drive.

Windows Media Player took care of everything for me. It transfered my music over just fine.

Problem is, it transfered EVERYTHING. Music.. the six billion pictures on my computer..

I'm going to just have to delete the internal memory tomorrow and start over. It would take ours to delete all the photos, and they're taking up tons of space.

Anyway, enough about that.

I'm half-watching Love Actually right now.

In all reality, I'm just watching Alan Rickman. I missed the beginning of the movie so I don't know what's going on, besides him being all hot and snarky.

Where was I?

random story

Mark and I went to the park in Kendallville yesterday. A short trip ended up in us walking all the way around Bixler lake (which is no small trip!).

There were these kids on bikes, and we moved off the path so they could get by us. After a few moments, no kids zoomed by, so I looked back. They'd gotten off their bikes and were approaching some birds on the side of the lake.

"DUCKYDUCKYDUCKYDUCKY!" they yelled, flailing their arms about and running at the birds.

I turned back and called "THOSE ARE GEESE!"

I just ordered my Alex Band EP.

It's about damn time I actually bought something for myself!

Seriously.

The last thing I bought for myself was a Sandman comic, with a gift card I got for Christmas. I need to buy the new Cure singles and the new NIN cds. But.. I loved Alex first, and he's offering more incentives. lol. He's on his own record label now and gave his seller a stack of signed copies to mix in with the regular ones. And he's putting a 'ticket' in one to send a lucky fan and friend to one of the shows - free tickets, free airfare, free hotel, coming up on stage, meet & greet afterwards,etc.. the whole nine yards. So, why not shell out $5 plus shipping for something I already want that might get me something really neat?

Anyway, if you're a fan of The Calling, go click that link up there and give it a look-see. Alex is doing his own stuff now. I haven't heard much, so I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.. but we'll see!

Writer's Block: Pick an era, any era

If you had to pick a time period to live in, which would you choose? Why?

View other answers

The first time period that comes to mind is the Victorian Era. The answer is simple enough: frock coats and corsets. I love me some tailored clothing!

Another would be the late 70's and the 80's. Punk Rock was still punk. The best bands ever were just starting out/reaching their prime. Most importantly, have you SEEN pictures of Robert Smith from the mid-80's? If I had a time machine..

I also think it would be awesome to live with my ancestors (of course I'd have to make sure they weren't actually related to me so I didn't change my future self somehow.. wow, I'm a nerd for typing that!). I'm Cherokee, and I love learning things about my heritage. I wish life were as simple and meaningful as it was back then. These days all people care about is money and fame, and it sickens me that it's nearly impossible to survive in the world without having a college degree, a good job, etc. I love being in nature and doing things on my own, and I'd love to go live as they did.. off the land, without all the fiscal worries.

This might sound weird, but does anyone have a good recipe for scones?

I know I can look on recipe websites (I tried..), but the jargon confuses me. Plus you never know if it's actually a good recipe, since you get 20 results for something like chocolate chip cookies or ..whatever you're looking for.

Oddly enough, I just had a weird craving for scones. I'm making icons for a community, and one of the quotes is "You have the emotional maturity of a blueberry scone." After looking through pictures of scones to find one for my icon, I naturally thought, "It's been a loooong time since I've had a scone - I want one!" And so led to the quest of a good scone recipe.

Humans.

When I read some of the other writer's block answers, I noticed that several people answered the same as I did. Humans, people, mankind.. the answers reasoned that they were truly scary because of their ability to hurt, apathy, rejection, etc.

That's not my reason. People just scare the hell out of me. I get social anxiety from the oddest things, and it terrifies me to no end. I can go to a concert with thousands of people attending, talk to random strangers in line, and fight my way through the mosh pit - but looking someone in the face who's walking down the same sidewalk as I am is difficult.

Besides people, the other animals I'd add are wasps/bees/hornets and cockroaches.

Why?

I didn't understand my fear of things that buzzed and stung for quite some time. I was finally able to trace it back to a childhood event. Also, a wasp flew down my shirt and into my bra once. Talk about awkward/scary. I believe that was the first time I cursed in front of my mother.

And the cockroaches. Yes, they're disgusting and look weird. But the main thing about them is that YOU CAN'T KILL THEM! They've survived for so long.. I mean, anything that can withstand whatever killed the dinosaurs is pretty scary indeed. They move SO fast on their creepy little legs, and dart around and hide before you've even raised whatever you were going to squash them with. I had a childhood event with one of these, too. *shudder*

Things that didn't make my list, but made others:

Horses. Yes, they're big, smart, and easily crush me and/or break several of my bones. But so could a car. :) Plus, they're cute.
Snakes. I've always wanted a pet snake. I very nearly bought one last fall. I was shopping around for one, and came home to my mother one day to say, "I looked at a snake today in a pet store. It bit me. I want it." Call me crazy.
Spiders. They just don't scare me for some reason. The exception to this would be ones I know can kill me, like Black Widows and Brown Recluses.
Sharks. Yeah, 'cos I'm ever going to go deep sea diving.
Sloths. I could easily outrun one. Excuse me - outwalk.
Bugs. I play with bugs.
Birds. Maybe if I were covered in raw meat, and thrown into a cage with several birds of the raptor family that hadn't eaten in weeks..
Moths. They're completely harmless, and there are some varieties that are actually quite pretty.

I'll make sure to post it here after it's up there, but that'll be later this summer. I've got to do mine early since I'll be at camp this summer; Mark's going to post it for me while I'm gone. :)

I need to get my James story going again, but everything I write just doesn't want to finish itself. Stupid, difficult James! ;p

In other news, I hit my head twice today. 3 times in the last 24 hours! What's going on with me?! Mark's going to start making me wear a helmet if I'm not more careful.

She's not an hour, maybe and hour and a half away - she's FIVE HOURS ONE WAY away. That's 10 hours on the road for a horse that may be a dud that I don't know if I could even get BACK. *grumbles*

However.

According to Google maps, Owensville, IN (where she is) is 3 hours and 3 minutes from Cape Girardeau, MO. The place is obviously going to be outside of the town, so that time could be a bit more or less. That could work.

My brain hurts too much to think about it anymore right now.

James drabble: 'Narcissus' prompt.

Title: Lookin' Good
Author: strangexgirl
Fandom: original
Characters: James D'voure
Prompt: 027. Narcissus
Word Count: exactly 100
Rating: G

James buttoned up his shirt and smoothed it out against his stomach. It looked great on him; or rather, he made it look great. His jeans were a perfect fit, too. He had to look good today. Well, he had to look extra good. He always looked good.

Suzy would fall head over heels for him with one glance, he thought, running a hand through his hair. He smiled at himself in the mirror, then laughed. He’d read stories about vampires not being able to see their reflections. To imagine eternal life without being able to appreciate one’s own beauty…

Random funny moment

Chopper (one of the cats) was sleeping in the recliner while Mark and I were doing stuff on our laptops on the couch. Chopper started snoring loudly, so I tossed a couple of wadded up Kleenex in his direction to wake him up a little so he'd stop.

He doesn't budge. He keeps snoring.

Mark turns on a Barry Manilow song, and one of Chopper's eyes immediately pops open to give Mark the special Evil Death Glare.

lmao.

Don't ask..

Long story short, a comment thread on ozma914 's journal ended up in me making a video of Daleks and Cybermen (from the TV show Dr. Who )doing the Safety Dance. 'Cos, you know, they can dance if they want to.

Silly me. I don't have a video editor.

Behold, my crappy GIF animation. I spent for FRAKKING ever making all the colors similar in the images so they'd flow better, fixing the image quality, etc etc (except in the one with the weird tan background..)... only for it to get all screwed up with the GIFness. The load time is terrible, the quality sucks now, and it's not all that great to begin with.. but it's fun for a laugh.

This is why I shouldn't embark on projects at 5 am, especially when Mark isn't around to supervise so I don't blow things up. Not that I blew anything up while making this.. :)

Click for insanity

oh-oh, mustache, babies, horses, fire, and marshamellows.

Today, I realized just how unmercifully I'm going to be teased at camp/work this year.

*blink*

I think I'll take the 1,000 lb territorial horse-beasts in the first week or so of trying to re-establish their pecking order over the tiny, fragile babies. Horses I can deal with. Babies terrify me. I'm afraid I'll break them. Saddling a horse I can do.. changing a diaper is foreign to me. And I much prefer barn smell over diaper smell. Plus, you can't ride a baby.

*quirks eyebrow*

I think I've been reading too many of Mark's columns. When I get stressed or tired, I tend to write like him. Maybe I should try for my own column in the paper... "Slightly off the Mark: Sans Mustache".. or something like that.

I make lots of jokes about Mark's mustache, but honestly, I think he'd look really weird without it. I like it.

(Now, who can tell me how I went from babies to mustaches?)

Speaking of Mark and the mustache... we cleaned up the yard yesterday. Picked up the branches, sticks, and shingles and trash from next door, got the leaves away from the basement door, put the screens in the back windows, etc.

There is a HUGE pile of every size of stick imaginable in the backyard.. along with a very large patch of bare dirt from when his pipes were dug up and replaced last year.

You camp people reading this know what this means. Big blazical in the back yard. S'mores, then hamburgers a la foil. Large first aid kit on standby. All kerosene removed from the immediate vicinity.

I'm excited. :D

I might have to make two, at different times. 'Cause, you know.. Banana Boats. </camp jargon>

Also, I talked to my mother on the phone today for probably 3 1/2 hours or more altogether today, and didn't want to smash my face into any sort of hard, unyielding object. Go me?
